On May 24, 2024, Sébastien Heitzmann and Morgan Werner of KiwiBackup put the finishing touches to the new DRP (Disaster Recovery Plan), installed on Data Forge machines and hosted in the Extendo data center in Belfort.
3 local players for a 100% French service
KiwiBackup has been developing and operating an offsite data backup service since 2003. ISO 27001 and HDS (Health Data Hosting) certified since 2019, the Alsace-based software vendor, headquartered in Mulhouse, was looking for a hosting partner with the same certifications in order to diversify its locations. After an in-depth study and a few unsuccessful trials, Sébastien Heitzmann, Managing Director of KiwiBackup, chose Extendo Datacenter, based in Belfort and offering all the required qualities and certifications. “We were looking for a local partner with the required certifications and the same values as us in terms of service quality, proximity and technical expertise. We are very happy to have found it in Extendo Datacenter,” says Sébastien Heitzmann.
For Fabien Hazebroucq, co-director at Extendo Datacenter, “digital sovereignty is one of the major cybersecurity challenges. Local players joining forces to offer services that combine proximity and excellence is an essential step in enabling regional businesses to take back ownership of their data. Hosting KiwiBackup was a no-brainer for us!”
To install its KiwiCloud and KiwiSanté DRPs, the software vendor also called on a recognized local player, Data Forge, based in Hochfelden. Its role: building the 500 TB storage servers needed to host the data. Julien Béasse, Sales Director at Data Forge, explains: “As part of this collaboration, we designed and assembled the new servers for the KiwiBackup DRP in Alsace. The project involved bringing this data, currently stored in a national data center, back to a local on-site infrastructure. Our goal was to offer high-performance solutions within an appropriate budget, to ensure optimal continuity of backup operations for KiwiBackup customers.”
ISO 27001 and HDS certification: a guarantee of quality
“It was essential for us to find a partner with ISO 27001 and HDS certifications, which are mandatory to operate our KiwiCloud and KiwiSanté solutions,” explains Sébastien Heitzmann. “They may seem restrictive at first, but they very quickly prove extremely useful in everyday operations, whether in describing and following procedures or in managing crisis situations. We were completely aligned with Extendo Datacenter on this.”
Fabien Hazebroucq adds: “Service quality and continuous process improvement are crucial in our customer relationships and in the management of our Belfort data center. Our guaranteed delivery and service restoration times played a large part in KiwiBackup’s choice of our infrastructure. Not to mention the high level of security of our buildings and server rooms, with biometrics.”
Development prospects
In the longer term, the three companies want to develop their synergies even further, in particular by extending hosting to other KiwiBackup services and, why not, by having Trinaps, Extendo Datacenter’s parent company, resell the KiwiCloud and KiwiSanté solutions. The leaders of the three companies are open to exploring every avenue to combine their know-how in the highly strategic field of data sovereignty and security.
