1. Hyper-V backup: flexibility and cost optimization

Backup of Microsoft Hyper-V virtual environments takes a new step forward:

  • Granular restore: you no longer need to restore an entire virtual machine to recover a single file. You can now target and restore exactly the items you need, saving valuable time during recovery operations.

  • Support for thin provisioning: storage accounting is changing. Only the volumes actually used by your virtual machines are now counted. You benefit from fair billing and pay only for the space you actually consume, optimizing your storage costs as much as possible without being penalized by the initial oversizing of your volumes.

See our Hyper-V documentation

2. Webadmin: better visibility into your services

To give you an ever clearer view of your backup infrastructure, new availability indicators are now available in the Webadmin interface. You can monitor the health and accessibility of your backup services at a glance:

  • Availability rate of the backup service
  • Availability rate of the "Webadmin" administration interface

The rate is provided by our monitoring, measured every 5 minutes and aggregated into a (rolling) monthly indicator. A rate above 99% is green, between 97 and 99% orange and below 97% red.
These indicators are displayed on the Webadmin dashboard, at the bottom of the page.

3. Monitoring: no errors for computers shut down "properly"

To spare you from handling unnecessary errors, agent management has been refined:

  • "Smart" detection of computer shutdowns: the agent now distinguishes between a machine shut down normally by its user and an abnormal interruption.

  • No more unwanted alerts during weekends and vacations: when a computer is shut down because the office is closed or its user is on vacation, no unjustified error report is generated.

  • 100% useful monitoring: you only receive alerts in the event of an actual malfunction (crash, unexpected shutdown during the backup).

All of these new features are already available in your consoles. To learn more about implementing granular Hyper-V restore or to get support for your teams in optimizing your backups, feel free to contact our support team or your KiwiBackup sales representative.
