Every month, the KiwiBackup technical team presents the improvements made to our solutions to continuously enhance the backup and restore experience. These updates include functional, technical, and usability optimizations to meet the day-to-day needs of administrators and users.

The September 2025 release focuses on three main areas: more accurate tracking during initial backups, the extension of backup scheduling to all platforms, and improved restore reliability. We are also working on virtual machine backup. This project still requires a few adjustments to guarantee optimal performance and a flawless user experience. Our technical team is fully focused on it, and the feature will be available soon.

1. A more accurate progress bar for initial backups

The user experience during the first backup, which often seems long (due to the large volume of initial backups), has been improved with a new progress bar. Two major improvements are now available:

  • Automatic calculation of the total volume to back up: before starting, the software assesses the size of the files to be processed in order to provide an accurate estimate of the overall volume.
  • Meaningful progress display: the progress bar takes the actual size of the files into account. The progress shown therefore accurately reflects the real state of the backup, rather than just the number of files processed.

These adjustments make the backup process easier to follow and let administrators and users alike track the progress of their initial backups with greater peace of mind.

2. Backup scheduling on all platforms

Until now, scheduling backup times was limited to Windows environments.

This feature is now extended to all platforms supported by KiwiBackup:

In practical terms, this means you can define in advance the exact times when your backups should run automatically, whatever system you use. You gain flexibility and consistency in organizing your backups, without having to manage different rules for each platform.

3. Improved restoration

The reliability and speed of restores are constant priorities. KiwiBackup has made two important improvements:

  • Bug fixes: an issue that could make some restores appear incomplete (even though all the data was indeed present in the database) has been resolved. The restored content now matches the selection made exactly, without any ambiguity.
  • Performance work: our teams are continuing to optimize restore speed. This improvement will be available this September and aims to significantly reduce data recovery times, while guaranteeing the same rigor in terms of security.

These improvements strengthen confidence in the restore process and ensure optimal service continuity when needed.

Conclusion

With this September release, we set out to make your backups clearer, more flexible, and more reliable, whether during initial backups, in scheduling across all your platforms, or in restoring your data.

We are continuing to work on virtual machine backup so that we can soon offer you a complete, high-performance solution.
