Release | QNAP NAS update and email search

1. QNAP backups: automatic updates

Starting with version 4.4.102, version upgrades of the backup software installed on QNAP NAS devices are automatic. You no longer need to worry about them and will benefit from all new features automatically.

Prerequisite : manually install (for the last time) version 4.4.102 from the download page.

2. Display of the files' last modified date

With KiwiBackup, you can restore the last 90 or 365 versions of your files. So if a file doesn't change for 1 month, for example, it will be the same in every restore folder for the last 30 days.

To see the actual date each of your files was last modified by the user, we have added this information to the restore preparation screen of the administration interface. This date, along with the size of the original file, is displayed next to each file, as shown in the attached screenshot.

3. Email backup: new search feature

From now on, when you browse the email archives from Outlook 365 and Gmail via the KiwiBackup administrator interface, you can search your emails. Searches cover the subject, sender and recipient fields. Very handy for finding an email you deleted by mistake and putting it back in your mailbox!

See the Email Backup documentation

4. Change to the default restore path on Windows

Until now, when you installed the KiwiBackup backup software, the default restore path was the same everywhere: /temp/

This works very well for all operating systems and you don't need to change it, except on Windows, which requires a path under c:\. As a result, if you did not change this default path, the restore could not complete on a Windows computer, since the folder required to receive your restored files could not be created.

This drawback is now a thing of the past, as the new default path (c:\Temp\) will always result in a successful restore, even if the Temp folder does not exist on the computer in question.

See the Windows Backup documentation

5. "Exclude patterns" in white label kits

If you use a customization kit for the KiwiBackup interface and installation under a white label, you can now define default "exclude patterns".

For example, you can specify in your kit that all files with the .mp4 or .txt extension must be excluded from backups by default.

This way, you don't have to repeat this configuration every time you install a new customer.

6. Improved display of the restore path

In the administrator interface, you can see all the restores requested on your contracts. This can be very useful for checking at a glance which restores have been carried out, during a security review for example. If these restores had been performed from the administration interface, you could clearly see the path of the requested folder (in the example: restore of etc/OpenCL). However, if the restore had been requested via the client interface, the path displayed was the restore target path and not the path of the folder whose restore had been requested (in the example: files restored to the target folder /tmp/ ).

This has been improved, and the display now shows the original path of the backed-up folder in all cases.
